We are so excited that Brent Gardner is working for us again here at WBKR.  You all have been hearing him on The CB Radio Show occasionally because he filled in for me when I was in Mexico and he takes the mic the first Thursday of every month when I emcee the Rooster Booster Breakfast for the The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.  Some of you have put the pieces together and realized that his voice sounds REALLY familiar.  There's a reason why that is.

Here's a blast from the past for you.  Remember Dan the Van Man?  Well, guess what?  Back in the day, Brent Gardner WAS Dan the Van Man!!  And we have the photos to prove it. (And it was a hoot going through the photo album yesterday!!)

Here's a shot of Brent (Dan) with our former mascot, the BKR Bear.  And the old WBKR Canyon!!  We're pretty sure that mascot costume and truck are in a landfill somewhere.

Here's Brent at Reid's Orchard (circa 2004 or 2005).  This is what you call waking up and smelling the roses.  Only those aren't roses and we don't really know what he was doing or why he was creepily sniffing them.  Maybe he was taking advantage of the Buy One, Get Two Free Flower Sale.  Or maybe he was testing out a new allergy medication.  Or maybe he was trying to decide if the Miracle-Gro they used in the greenhouse would work on his scalp.

And here's the real beauty . . . Dan and that sketchy blue WBKR van he used to have to drive around all the time.  It had a platform on the top that you could actually climb up to and ride on (because that was safe).  It had a half-moon couch in the back that had NO seatbelts (because that was safe).  And it smelled.

And look!  Here's Dan the Van Man broadcasting from (or casing) a jewelry store.  By the way, he STILL has a flip phone!!

We are loving this Throwback Thursday tribute to Dan the Van Man.  And we're so glad, after all these years, he's made his way back to us.  A little older, a little balder (believe it or not), but the same great WBKR radio personality.
