Tips Every High Schooler Should Know!
Nervous about entering your first or last year of high school? Here are some tips every high schooler should know!
Hi, Kennedy the intern here! As a high school senior there are many things that I wish someone would've told me over my 4 years at Owensboro High School. There's an abundance of simple things that you can do to make your high school experience successful and worthwhile. You only have one shot at high school, so don't let it go to waste. Here are 4 easy tips that high schoolers can implement into their lives.
1. Get Involved
One of the biggest parts of the high school experience is extracurricular activities. It is so important to get involved with your school in order to discover things you are passionate about. I've been involved in choir and theater for the past four years and I can truly say that the experiences I had with these groups have helped me in my decision to dedicate my life to music and helping others. Extracurriculars not only fuel your passions, but can also be a fun way to hang out with friends or connect with others who you would've never met elsewhere. Whether it's through arts, sports, or academics, find a way to get involved at your school.
2. Take Time to Yourself
Although you should be involved and stay busy in high school, you can't forget that these are the years you are supposed to find yourself. You can't find yourself if you don't take care of yourself. If you feel you are losing yourself, it is important to make time to relax and think. Life can get a little hectic sometimes, so make sure you remember who you are and why you are here or you may get lost in the madness of it all. Take a sick day, sleep in, eat some ice cream, and just breathe. You should never be too busy or stressed to take care of yourself. And don't worry, you have plenty of time to finish finding yourself after high school.
3. Be Alert
Though you will have time for extracurricular activities and some me-time, you also have assignments you must get done and tests you have to pass. It is crucial to stay up to date on what you need to get done. Do NOT put things off until the last minute. Always keep an agenda with you and write things down! When the infamous senioritis hits, like it has with me this year, you mustn't give up early. Know your scholarship due dates and apply for all you can. You will regret it if you don't! It is important to start and finish strong. Surround yourself with people who can help you stay motivated and organized.
4. Live in the Moment
The final tip should be achievable if you can implement the other three tips. If you get involved, take time for yourself, and stay alert, you will be able to live in the moment and actually enjoy high school. Don't take anything for granted. The end will be here before you know it. Graduation snuck up on me, but because I followed these tips, I have little regrets. I will always look back on high school and be grateful for the memories and friends I made. I feel ready and excited for my future. You must live in the moment in order to be truly satisfied. Try to appreciate the little things, and take lots of pictures (but not too many). Even when times get hard, look at what your future holds and know that every rainbow comes after rain!
And that's it! I hope you enjoyed these tips and can implement them into your life as a high school student. They really are applicable to any one. Start with one at a time, and I'm sure you will see a change in your quality of life soon!
