I like John Michael Montgomery as much as the next guy and I spent a little time sharing jokes with him on a Kentucky farm back in the early 90's, but I would have never guessed him as the best selling singer from the Commonwealth.

According to radio.com, the Danville native has sold more music than any other Kentucky-born artist.

Now for Indiana this is no surprise: Michael Jackson. The late legend was born in Gary, Indiana (which is really Chicago!) in 1958 and has sold millions and millions of records worldwide.

Okay, that is for music sales. But there is also sheet music. And, a company called Music Notes follows that trend. As the largest top digital sheet music e-tailer and publisher, Music Notes has some interesting info for Kentucki-Ana.

The top download is Kentucky is various versions of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu", which he composed for his Requiem. Here's a version I prefer by Webber's former wife, Sarah Brightman.

Meanwhile in the Hooster state, the top digital download of music is Plumb's "Need You Now (How Many Times)".

Country music is represented in some other states.

COLORADO: Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band

FLORIDA: God Bless the U.S.A. By Lee Greenwood

MONTANA: Wings of a Dove Ferlin Husky

WEST VIRGINIA: Shocker! Take Me Home Country Roads John Denver
