It has been confirmed that UK forward Alex Poythress tore his ACL in practice and will miss the rest of the season.

I feel bad for the guy. He plays with such energy and joy and he is an absolute force when driving to the basket. And he's a great defender. He's a blast to watch.

And while Kentucky will miss his blocking prowess--he's already chalked up 12 this season--this Wildcats team will still be among the nation's deepest.

Of course, this sort of puts the kibosh on head coach John Calipari's platoon system, but I was ready for that to be re-organized anyway. I mean, Coach Cal himself has already tinkered with it a few times.

He still has incredible depth with which to work. And, yes, Poythress' defensive capabilities and free-throw shooting--he's the top 'Cat in this category, nailing it from the charity stripe at an 86% clip--will be sorely missed.

Calipari will now regroup and retool his starting line-up and get the 'Cats ready for visiting North Carolina on Saturday.

It remains to be seen if Tyler Ulis and Devon Booker, who missed Wednesday's game against Columbia due to minor injuries, will be back.
