Last week, a wreck involving a semi disabled the traffic signal and its power source at the intersection of US 60 and US 231.

At the time, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was looking at the possibility of a month-long detour around that intersection.

But now we have word from the KYTC of a discovery by the signal crew of most of the materials they needed to reconstruct the signal right there in their storeroom inventory.

Also, three of the four poles were actually okay after the accident and the crew had a 32 foot pole at the Madisonville storage yard.

So, as we speak, the signal is on and in flashing mode with the plan to be back up and fully operating by sometime next week.

Technicians will still be working at the site, so motorists are urged to take precautions but, yeah, that whole waiting-possibly-a-month thing now seems to be out the window.

I'm always up for good news.
