Warmer Temperatures this Week Could Put your Children and Pets in Danger

Temperatures are on the rise this week which poses a danger for children and pets. The Kentucky State Police and Barb are offering some tips to help keep our community safe this summer.

Kentucky State Police have issued some important safety tips to help keep children safe this summer and I'll share some important tips to keep your furry children safe with the rising temps too!

Never leave a child in an unattended car, even with the windows down.

Be sure that all occupants leave the vehicle when unloading. Don't overlook sleeping babies.

Always lock your car. If a child is missing, check the car first, including the trunk. Teach your children that vehicles are never to be used as a play area.

Keep a stuffed animal in the car seat and when the child is put in the seat place the animal in the front with the driver as a reminder.

Place your purse or briefcase in the back seat as a reminder that you have your child in the car.

Make ‘look before you leave’ a routine whenever you get out of the car.

Lt. Michael Webb says; " while a person will face criminal charges for leaving a child in a car, the pain and guilt from making such a mistake will last far longer".

KSP asks citizens to keep an eye out for children left in vehicles on hot days and to call 911 if they think the occupant is in danger.

Here's my tips to keep our furry family members safe in the rising heat:

If you have outdoor pets please be sure to find them a cool location in the yard, like under a tree for shade.

Be sure they have plenty of water.

Have a neighbor check on your outdoor pet if your at work during the day to be sure they haven't  knocked over their water dish and that they are breathing okay.

Leaving a pet alone in a parked car during warm weather can be deadly so please don’t do it! If you do, and it's reported, you could lose your beautiful companion which would be heartbreaking.
