When I opened a birthday card from my parents last month, there were tickets in it. It was four tickets to see the Tony and Grammy award-winning musical 'Wicked'! Ever since I saw a documentary about the development of the show, which debuted on Broadway in 2003, I've been eager to see it. So me and the family headed off to Louisville Sunday and we had a blast!

I have been to the Kentucky Center for the Arts a couple of times, but it's had a huge face lift, as evidence by the big projected billboard seen above. It's the first time we didn't have floor or mezzanine seats, we were in the top balcony, however, the show is so visually big, there are no bad views. I love the 'Land of Oz' map!

Okay, so I knew the music, my sister had read the book written by Gregory Maguire, Mom and Dad had heard of the show, but they had no other references. In a nutshell, the story is about Elphaba aka The Wicked Witch of the West and we see how other familiar characters in the Oz world came to be. We see how Glinda or Galinda became Elphaba's rival, friend, and ultimately, The Good Witch of The North. It's a genius concept and show. Now I couldn't snap photos during the show, it's bad theater etiquette, but I had to get shot of this young man at intermission.

It's a red, silk-looking suit. He sat in front of us. The best part, and I'm still kicking myself for not getting a picture, he had ruby-jeweled shoes on! Oh, and we find out how the ruby slippers came to be. No more spoilers!

Everybody wanted a picture in front of the paparazzi wall/show banner. So he we are! 'Wicked' runs through December 6th (no show on Thanksgiving) at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.
