Well, this is depressing.  And it's alarming.  And you should read it.  The New York State Cancer Registry (in conjunction with the CDC) has just published a map that shows the "most distinctive" causes of death for each state in the nation.  Researchers Francis Boscoe, PhD and Eva Pradham, MPH studied deaths and the links/causes of those deaths from 2001 to 2010.  Here's a look at the map and what's killing us here in the tristate.

According to the study, in Kentucky, our big killers are lung disease and chemicals that are polluting our environment due to factories, industry and mining.  In Indiana, the primary cause of death is a little more vague.  There, the "most distinctive" cause of death isn't distinctive at all.  It's listed as "other and unspecified events of undetermined intent."
