Coinciding almost always with Christmas in July is Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. It's a non-stop marathon of real and, as it turns out, fake sharks. What isn't fake is the number of shark attacks the past decade in the U.S.

The website SafeWise has calculated how frequently and where these shark attacks occur and the state with most in the past ten years, no surprise, it's Florida with 244 attacks. Its panhandle neighbors Georgia and Alabama have had the least number of attacks since 2007. The Carolinas have had a total of 72 attacks. Hawaii is in second with 65.

The chances of being attacked by a shark are less likely than, for example, dying from the flu, wow! Only six attacks in the past ten years have been declared fatal.
