I came across this story last week and thought it might generate some interesting conversation. Adam LaRoche, the White Sox First Basemen retired from Major League Baseball because he was asked to limit his son's time with the team. According to reports, Adam's son Drake, had been with the team every day during Spring Training and was on the field during team drills. Drake LaRoche also had his own jersey and locker in the White Sox club house. Adam LaRoche, who had been with the White Sox organization since 2015, left $19 million on the table, believing it was more important to spend time with his son than continue his 15 year baseball career. Apparently, Drake LaRoche had spent the entire 2015 season with the team, while being home-schooled in order to spend time with his father.

While I certainly admire Adam LaRoche's commitment to his family,I can certainly see both sides of this issue. Very few employers, if any, would allow an employee to have their child with them on a constant basis while on the job. Personally, I can count on one hand the number of times I was at my dad's office during work hours. However, I completely understand a parent's desire to spend as much time as they can with their child. I have a couple of questions for you all. First, how much time is too much time for a child to be in the workplace? Secondly, would you be willing to walk away from a seven figure salary for the sake of your family. Feel free to leave comments below.
