It's not anyone you would have imagined.  But the NFL has announced that Grammy-winning opera star Renee Fleming will sing the national anthem at Super Bowl 48.

Renee Fleming is a 54-year-old opera legend famous for roles in Thais (which I saw her in and she was mesmerizing), La traviata, Otello and more.  She is the first opera singer to receive an invitation to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Big Game and she now shares a place in sports history among the likes of Garth Brooks, Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson, The Dixie Chicks, Beyonce, Cher, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel and Faith Hill.
