Almost 25 years ago, country icon Willie Nelson, along with rockers Neil Young and John Mellencamp, dreamt up the Farm Aid Music Festival. It’s still going strong today, widely known as the longest-running benefit concert in the country, and will once again take place this fall, in upstate New York.

Over the past couple decades, Farm Aid has raised more than $40 million for American farmers in danger of losing their farms through mortgage debt. Each year, the annual event strives to help farmers through the benefit concert, which features top-notch artists. This year’s performances in Saratoga, N.Y. are no exception, and will include the Red Headed Stranger along with other Farm Aid board members: Mellencamp, Young and Dave Matthews.

Last year’s event was also a huge success, also featuring Nelson’s son, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real.

According to CMTT, Nelson says there are “a whole lot of small family farmers” in upstate New York — and Saratoga would be “a great place” to reach out to them.

Throughout his illustrious career, Nelson has helped many — whether through his songs or philanthropy. When he combines the two, it’s like magic. Good music plus good deeds are at their best with the terrific Farm Aid event. The concert is set for Sept. 21.
