We knew it was going to be cold New Year's weekend and the National Weather Service has confirmed it.  A Wind Chill Advisory is now in effect for much of the WBKR listening area.

According to the National Weather Service office in Paducah, a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 6pm this evening until Noon on Tuesday, January 2nd.

Very cold wind chills expected. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.  All of far southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, southeast Missouri and northwest Tennessee.

Wind chills will fall to from near 0 to 10 below tonight, and then from 5 below to 15 below Sunday night (New Year's Eve) and Monday night (New Year's Day).

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and protect your extremities.  Here are some helpful tips on how to really protect yourself from these anticipated brutally cold temperatures.
