Offered in conjunction with the University of Southern Indiana. This program will provide dementia care training for professionals in the internationally recognized Best Friends Approach(™). Taught by Tonya Cox, a Master Trainer for the Approach, this method celebrates the concept of friendship and applies it to dementia care. The Best Friends Approach(™) has been shown to improve the quality of life and reduce challenging behaviors in persons with dementia. participants will learn new techniques to engage and care for persons with dementia and will come away with a refreshing new perspective on dementia care. Nurses and Indiana social workers, health facility administrators, occupational therapists, and dental professionals will receive up to 5.25 contact hours with attendance at the entire program and completed program evaluation.

University of Southern Indiana (USI) College of Nursing and Health Professions is (1) accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation; (2) an approved provider of continuing education for social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and other professionals licensed in the state of Indiana; and (3) approved by the Indiana State Board of Health Facility Administrators as a sponsor of continuing education programs for health facility administrators.

This event will be held at the University of Southern Indiana Health Professions Center Rm 1027, 8600 University Blvd, Evansville, IN 47712, on October 24, 2013, from 9:30am-4pm. Lunch provided.
