I am not a fan of any type of mosquito, but there's a warning about one in Illinois that you definitely don't want to mess with. It's an invasive pest that isn't supposed to be here in the first place, but it is now a reality. Beware that they carry diseases and bite like a tiger.

The Illinois Department of Health has a site dedicated to a mosquito that is worse than the regular pests that are native to the state. It's an invasive variation known as the Asian Tiger Mosquito and you don't want to be on the receiving end of its bite.

The state of Illinois that the Asian Tiger Mosquito is one of the carriers of West Nile Virus which has already been confirmed in the Land of Lincoln.

One interesting aspect of this villainous mosquito is the females are the ones to watch out for. The male Asian Tiger Mosquito does not bite according to the state of Illinois, but the females do for blood to help their eggs develop. Ew.

The good news is you can prevent this invasive mosquito from being a nuisance. They don't travel far from their breeding places which include standing water and old tires. Make sure you have no breeding places available and you'll likely be fine.
