This Kentucky Rest Area Ranked as One of America’s Best Public Restrooms
One public restroom in Kentucky just got the spotlight in a good way. However, you might be surprised which one it is.
Public restrooms are very hit or miss. Most of the time, you walk into a public restroom, and you feel like you need to wear a hazmat suit with how disgusting it is. Every now and then, you'll walk into a public restroom, and you'll be surprised by how clean it is. Let's be honest though, those restrooms are few and far between. The majority of the time you go into a public restroom, you will find disgusting things everywhere you look, like clogged and unflushed toilets, no toilet paper, and, to top it all off, no soap to wash your hands. There's not much that is flattering about most public restrooms.
That being said, not every public restroom is created equally. For every 30 or 40 bad public restrooms out there, there's one that is actually pretty nice. I made that ratio up, but you get the point. There are more nasty public restrooms than good ones. So when you hear about one that's actually nice, clean, and is said to be the best in the state, naturally, you're curious.

The Best Public Restroom in Kentucky
Recently, a national survey from American River Wellness found the best public restroom in each state. Now, these aren’t your average roadside stops. We're talking about well-maintained, traveler-approved rest areas that go beyond the basics with clean facilities, thoughtful design, and a surprisingly pleasant experience, as voted on by the travelers themselves. This nationwide survey consisted of more than 3,000 drivers and truckers giving their opinion on public restrooms.
When it comes to the best public restroom in Indiana, look no further than the Kentucky Welcome Center – I-65 (Bowling Green). The Kentucky Welcome Center on I-65 is actually located right at the Tennessee-Kentucky state line in Simpson County (near Bowling Green).
This Welcome Center was completed in 2021, and offers a new, modern facility with ample restrooms (including family ones), vending, info, and pet waste stations. Here's a little video of this Welcome Center:
This looks like your average rest area to me. Granted, it's a little nicer than some of the other ones that I have seen in my travels. Honestly, I am surprised that one of the newer Buc-ees locations in Kentucky wasn't named the nicest bathroom in the state. If you have been to a Buc-ees, you know exactly what I'm talking about. While there might be nicer and more appealing-looking restrooms in Indiana, this rest area isn't a bad option when nature calls.
