One of my favorite things to do while on vacation, or even just on a free weekend, is to visit a museum I’ve never been to before. Some of my favorite local spots are the Evansville Wartime Museum, LST 325, and the Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes. Additionally, the Alcatraz East Crime Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, are two of my other favorite historical spots.
I've always had a passion for history, and there have been countless occasions when I’ve been told I have somewhat of an "old soul." My wife and I love homesteading and both share a passion for the simpler things in life. That said, we definitely don't hate modern technology as a whole. Many great things have come out of the 21st century, including new life-saving medicines, better communication devices, and YouTube, which has been my saving grace when it comes to home improvement.
While I don't believe all modern technology is inherently bad, I must admit there is a part of me that would have liked to experience the early 20th century firsthand. Personally, I find it fun to look back at vintage photos and see what life was like in those days, speculating about what was happening beyond the frame. Below, you'll see photos of Indiana from the 1900s where you can let your imagination run wild. There is a lot to see, and if you're a native Hoosier, you might even recognize a few landmarks.
