Community Meeting Seeking Public Input On Safety and Connectivity Around Lloyd Expressway
The Lloyd Expressway
The Lloyd Expressway (or the Lloyd for short) is a major thoroughfare that runs east and west in Evansville. Thousands of people travel on it daily, and if there is a traffic backup or construction (which we are seeing a LOT right now) on the Lloyd, it can cause a real headache for Evansville drivers.
The Lloyd is currently undergoing significant changes as TheLloyd4U project is underway and working to address safety concerns and much-needed updates. The project includes about $150 million in improvements to the Lloyd to make it more efficient and safer for people to navigate. Now, there's a study that is looking to make improvements for non-motorized travel as it navigates around the Lloyd.
The Lloyd 4 All
The Lloyd 4 All is a collaborative study between the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization (EMPO).
They are working together to investigate the need for multimodal improvements along the Lloyd east-west from US 41 to Epworth Road.
Unfortunately, the “Lloyd” often serves as an obstacle for non-motorized travel. Within the study area, the six-lane expressway is heavily used by vehicular and truck traffic, hosts four Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) bus routes, and includes four existing bicycle/pedestrian overpass bridges. The bicycle/pedestrian overpasses, combined with the elevated grade-separated interchanges at Boeke Road and Green River Road, provide connectivity north and south of the Lloyd Expressway to allow access to Evansville neighborhoods, trails, parks, schools and places of worship. This study looks to improve upon and expand those existing connections.

Public Input is Wanted at Upcoming Lloyd 4 All Meeting
On July 22nd, The Lloyd 4 All is hosting a public meeting where input for the study is both welcomed and encouraged. This public open house is on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 5:30 - 7:00 at Harrison High School.
This study will address safety and connectivity within the study limits, including the Lloyd Expressway from US 41 to Epworth Road. Study limits also include the area one mile north to Morgan Avenue and a mile and a half south to Covert Avenue.
