This past week, I got a notification that my daughter’s first report card of the year is coming out next week. I can’t believe it—doesn’t it feel like school just started? I’ve already put over $100 in her lunch account, and that’s on top of what was leftover from last year!
School lunches really add up. I was watching Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and the segment on school lunches was eye-opening. It made me appreciate our public school nutrition departments—they have such a huge task with very few resources. Even though the schools provide lunch, many kids are hungry in the hours leading up to lunch. And that's where one local organization is stepping in.
