In December of 2022, the Evansville Rescue Mission announced plans for an extremely important project to assist the homeless women and children in our community.

The Susan H. Snyder Center for Women and Children

Once the announcement of the center for women and children was made, work began on the blueprints for the design of the property located at 1400 Professional Blvd. The design by LA+D includes a daycare for residents and staff to use, a salon, a fitness center, three laundry facilities, a teaching kitchen, a children’s library, a technology lab, an in-house “store”, a chapel and multi-purpose room, an emergency shelter, and a dining room.

This huge undertaking is going to be life-changing for moms who not only need a safe space but also need help figuring out what comes next. The 42,000-square-foot facility will be a secure, beautiful, one-of-a-kind facility for up to 125 women and children.

Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony

When President / CEO Tracy Gorman shared the news of this amazing project with us, he was hoping for an opening date of March 13, 2025, to be exact. Fast forward 11 months, and those calculations were correct!

The grand opening is Thursday, March 13, at 2 pm, and it's open to the public. Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry will be the keynote speaker during the ceremony.  Dr. Tom DeVries, President / CEO of the Citygate Network, a national association of which the ERM is a longtime member, will bring brief remarks, as will members of the Mission’s leadership team. A self-guided, curated tour of the facility will follow the ceremony

10 Services Your Evansville Rescue Mission Provides

Your Evansville Rescue Mission is so much more than a men's homeless shelter. They provide a lot of services to give a hand up, not a handout. ERM has been serving Evansville, Indiana for over 100 years, thanks to volunteers.

Then & Now - Evansville's Washington Square Mall Through the Years

Evansville is home to a lot of unique buildings including the first enclosed retail shopping center in Indiana. Yes, our very own Washington Square Mall was the place to be when it opened in 1963. If you walk through the mall today, you would never guess how alive the shops were, even through the 1980s. Enjoy this walk down memory lane I've put together, and maybe someday there will be new life inside 5011 Washington Ave.
