What Were the Original Stores in Owensboro’s Towne Square Mall? [PICTURES]
It was late February in 1978, and Owensboro's excitement could not be contained. We were getting a brand new mall.
I was in 6th grade and a friend of mine actually got out of class because his dad was opening a store in the all-new Towne Square Mall.
It opened on March 1st of that year.
The day before, on February 28th, the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer ran a complete Towne Square Mall shopper's guide.
Here are some ads the Messenger-Inquirer published for the guide they ran that day, beginning with a complete directory of every business that was there on day one of Towne Square Mall 39 years ago (I had forgotten Moonlite had a little place out there):
Some of those stores I don't even remember. Some I barely remember. Others--like Wax Works, Waldenbooks, and Aladdin's Castle, which was where I hung out when I was at the mall--I'll never forget.
And THIS immediately became one of my family's favorite restaurants when we'd eat out:
What a cool trip down memory lane.
That was fun, and I hope you enjoyed it.
