Cicada Season 2025: What To Expect In KY, IN, IL, and TN
Last Spring was an incredibly noisy one here in Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee. Billions of cicadas emerged in a rare double-brood event. Brood 13 and Brood 17 crawled up out of the ground and put on quite a show- a loud one- for weeks.
Stuart Snow, who lives in Daviess County, Kentucky, in the northwestern part of the Commonwealth, managed to capture video of what he called the 'Cicada Concert.' Take a listen!
Obviously, there's no way to know just how many cicadas were hanging out in the trees on Stuart's property (scientists say there will be trillions of them throughout the U.S.), but he noted there were thousands in his trees and 'on the long grasses.'

He said that so many had unearthed, "The ground looked like it had been aerated."

However, our friends to the south in Tennessee are going to get a double dose. They're going to get a combination of Brood 14 and, likely, some Brood 1 'stragglers.'

Now, if you're wondering when cicadas typically emerge, it's usually around the middle of May. So, the countdown to the 'concert' begins.
