I spoke with Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart earlier today about the inevitability of the kind of heat wave we're experiencing. This one is our first of the summer, compared to last year when there was one that went nine days in June.

At some point, we're bound to get heat like we're getting this week. This is, after all, the great Ohio Valley.

The heat is extreme enough that daytime cooling shelters are available for those who will need them.

The Daniel Pitino Shelter at 501 Walnut Street will be available from 8AM to 6PM through this Sunday. This cooling shelter will be available to families, women, and children.

The St. Benedict's Shelter at 1001 W. 7th Street will be available from 8AM to 6PM through Sunday. This cooling shelter will be available to men only.

If you any questions, please contact Daviess County EMA at 270-685-8448.
