When I was a kid, anytime we'd go on vacation--whether it would be to Florida or New Mexico (we would alternate years)--we would always go through Tennessee. And on the way back, we'd stop at one of those enormous over-the-top fireworks retailers whose signs you could see from the moon. You know the ones--Crazy Charlie's! Mad Marty's! Nutty Ned's! Well, maybe not Nutty Ned's, but anyway, that's where we'd get our fireworks. Then they got closer when we could start purchasing them in Indiana. And, now, fireworks like roman candles and firecrackers and the like can now be sold in Kentucky. But sales and use are still subject to individual city ordinances, such as the one passed recently in Owensboro. After sifting through the legalese, it seems there will be certain restrictions, as would be the case when using fireworks anywhere. But the door has opened. And it's now up to us to walk through it responsibly. Hey, I would imagine there are cities in the southwest where they are just flat out forbidden because of the climate.  So we're all very fortunate to have this privilege. And I hope we all use it wisely.
