It's Tax Season and you're likely rounding up your W2s and additional tax forms. Here in Owensboro, you ca actually have your taxes prepared and filed for you for free. The Green River Asset Building Coalition is again offering VITA- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. In fact, they just kicked off their services for the 2024 season last week.

Free Tax Preparation Assistance is available at 1741 Scherm Road in Owensboro five days a week- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. That's a brand new location, by the way.  Hours vary from day-to-day and can be found below.

To utilize the services, there are some qualifications you must meet. Folks seeking help must fit into one or more of the following categories:

Low to moderate income

Disabled

Senior Citizen

Limited English

The Green River Asset Building Coalition has shared a one-sheet that contains all necessary information about what you need to take with you when you go. By the way, appointments are not necessary. You can simply show up during tax site hours.

Plus, it's important to note that the Green River Asset Building Coalition is quite versed in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). According to GRABC Executive Director Teresa Thomas, "That credit is designed to help low to moderate-income workers and families receive a tax break. Claiming that credit can reduce the amount of tax you owe and may also give you a larger refund."
