In April 2010 the Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) unveiled the Green River District Faces of Cancer photo display with a reception at Kentucky Wesleyan College. KCP hopes their 2nd Faces project will continue to inspire the message of regular screening coupled with survivorship.

The 2010 Faces of Cancer photos remain on display in Owensboro at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center. It inspires conversations about screening while providing hope to those receiving treatment at the center.

This KCP signature project allows local individuals to be the "face" of cancer through their story of screening, diagnosis, treatment and survival.  Survivors are the best advocates to encourage others to have regular cancer screenings.

Individuals of all ages and cancer diagnoses, throughout the district (Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster), are encouraged to submit an application. The chosen applicants will have their photo taken for a display to be exhibited throughout the district.

An unveiling ceremony will held in Owensboro and will be open to ALL applicants and their families, as well as the community at-large. It will feature the survivors who had their photo taken as a part of the mobile display.  Smaller receptions may occur in the survivor's county of residence.  The exhibit will be available for display in the Green River District Counties.

The Faces of Cancer Application states that there is a selection process. Each applicant will be considered, but not all will be chosen. Deadline for submission: July 1, 2011.

Julie Hudnall has generously donated time and talents as the photographer for this project. She will work with each survivor to decide what will best depict, through a photo, their journey through cancer. This project is very personal to Julie and she brings a real and unique perspective to this project. She is a breast cancer survivor. Julie desires to capture the essence of survivorship with each “Face”.

Please share this project description your colleagues, family and friends.  KCP would like to have applicants representing each of our seven Green River District Counties. If you have questions regarding any aspect of the KCP Faces of Cancer Project, please contact Jaime Rafferty at jrafferty@vci.net or call 270-683-2560.
