
Are These the Most Hard-to-Pronounce KY City and County Names?
When the movie Elizabethtown was released in 2005, I was anxious to see if writer/director Cameron Crowe did enough homework in creating his dramedy about a depressed shoe designer who returns to Kentucky for his father's funeral.
By that I mean, I wanted to make sure he got the little things right. For the most part, he did, even if I ended up not liking the movie. One of those "little things" is best presented by Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst in this scene:
In terms of obscure Kentucky traditions, that's a DEEP DIVE on Crowe's part, and the Dunst character is completely on point.

Now, as soon as they make a movie about MY home county, we'll have to make sure the actors don't rhyme it with "navies" because THIS is the correct pronunciation:

Finally, if you're in Spain, you are completely in the right if you say (kuh-DEES) when pronouncing Cadiz. In the Bluegrass State?
But hey, we have it easy. Imagine being a six-year-old and seeing the word "Albuquerque" for the first time. I think I gave up and just called it "dog."
