November is National Diabetes Month and Dr. Sara Doolin-Thompson (of Owensboro) has decided to jump at the chance to help spread awareness about the disease.

HOW COMMON IS DIABETES IN KENTUCKY?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, roughly 10% of Kentuckians suffer from diabetes. Latest statistics show that over 450,000 folks here in the Commonwealth have the disease. It's believed there are likely another 100,000 Kentuckians who have diabetes and don't know it yet. When you consider that the entire population of the state is 4.5 million, it's clear we have a significant portion of our citizens who are affected.

So, Dr. Doolin-Thompson has decided to do something unique to spread awareness about diabetes and how to prevent and treat it.

WHEN AND WHAT IS 'LADIES NIGHT OUT'?

On Thursday, November 9th, she's hosting a Ladies Night Out event at her offices on Frederica Street here in Owensboro. The event is scheduled to run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Ladies Night Out is being held in conjunction with Kelsey Jarboe and the Leading Ladies Community. It will feature TONS of vendors, who will be on hand selling permanent jewelry, scrubs, organic hand-pressed juices, skin products and much more. Plus, there will be giveaways/door prizes, including an IPL Package (with three treatments) valued at $3100!!

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Of course, the primary goal of the event is to raise awareness about diabetes. Dr. Doolin-Thompson is encouraging folks to stop by and make a $10 suggested donation at the door. All the proceeds raised will be given to the American Diabetes Association in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month. By the way, a donation is highly encouraged, but not required for entry into the Ladies Night Out event.
