An arena for the former Evansville Icemen, now the Owensboro Icemen, began and ended with the discussion phase.

14News/WFIE reports that after a study on the feasibility of such an arena was conducted, it was decided that there will not be a new facility for the Icemen at this time.

The estimated cost of the arena, which would have been built on Highway 54, was in the $20-25 million dollar range.

And the funding would have been part of the Highway 54 TIF.

Officials with the city of Owensboro have notified the Icemen of their decision and now other plans will be put up for discussion, including renovating the Owensboro Sportscenter.

WFIE reports that plans for a restaurant in downtown Owensboro featuring offtrack betting is still in the works.
