How tempting is it, during the winter, to start you motor and let your car warm up for a while before you climb in?

Exactly. And we've all done it, right?

Well, the Owensboro Police Department REALLY wishes we wouldn't. And for a couple of reasons:

I'm always conscious of the possibility of theft.

When I was in college, a friend of mine was heading back to campus after work and stopped at a convenience store. Everything he needed was at the counter, so he just left his motor running, ran in, made his purchase, came back out and his truck was gone.

Two minutes, tops, was all some disreputable individual needed to steal his truck.

He eventually got it back the next day, but he learned his lesson.

And I, in turn, learned mine.
