Rick Pitino Memoir Due in September, Promises to ‘Tell All’

To be perfectly honest, I have never read a memoir. And when they promise to be "tell-all," I raise my eyebrows in skepticism.

And I'm not just saying that because we're talking about former U of L head basketball coach Rick Pitino.

When ANY celebrity promises a "tell-all" memoir, it's entirely possible that it's really a "tell-some."

I mean, how do we really know. Everything in any given memoir might be completely true. But everything in any given memoir might not be EVERYTHING there is to tell, if you know what I mean.

So, here comes Pitino: My Story, due out in September. In it, the hall-of-fame coach will "lay all his cards on the table," according to publisher Division Books.

(I'm not sure if that pun was intended or not.)

Pitino co-wrote the book with Seth Kaufman and it will hit bookstores and online retailers September 4th.

I gotta tell ya, that's a pretty quick turnaround if I'm to suppose that Pitino wouldn't have contemplated a memoir had recent scandals not occurred.

On the other hand, I've never written a book, let alone sent a manuscript to a publisher, so I don't know how quickly this works.

I do know this much...his years at Louisville will not be the only period in his life covered.

The Associated Press report at Sports Illustrated says the book will cover everything "from his time coaching the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics to his triumphant and troubled career in the NCAA."

And while there are likely things his attorney or attorneys have told him he can't say, the AP goes on to say that the coach will take aim at "opportunistic agents" and "predatory apparel companies."

I bet I end up reading it...even though I may just wait and check it out at the library.
