Roxie Pickrell’s Legacy Lives on One Heartfelt Mission at a Time
Roxanne Lorraine Pickrell was one of the sweetest souls with an entire life ahead of her until it was tragically cut short on November 6th, 2019. She was just 13 years old when she died from complications with brain cancer surgery. She had so much promise and so much more to give to the world.
Roxie Pickrell was just 13 years old when she took her last breath. It was a life cut much too short, and one that left a community in tears. She touched so many lives including mine. And, she continues to do so today.
It was so hard to announce her passing on that sad November day. I wrote, "As a community, we mourn. We mourn for Roxie and what her life could have been with that red hair and sass. We mourn for the entire Pickrell family, especially for Jason and Cathy. We mostly mourn for a life cut short. I can’t believe this is how her story ended. She had so much more to do. Rest in peace beautiful girl."
I also shared this on those hard days in November 2019, "Please remember to be kind to one another in Roxie's name. She was one of the kindest and sweetest souls. Let's keep her legacy alive. Thoughts and prayers continue for her entire family, her friends, her schoolmates, and everyone who loved this beautiful angel. We may not understand why this happened, but we can hold on to each other as a community, and celebrate her life."
MOTHER & DAUGHTER HAVE A SPECIAL BOND
It's safe to say that Cathy and Roxie had an unbreakable bond. Scrolling through social media you can see the mother-daughter bond quite clearly. From the love for their beloved Kansas City Cheifs, having an adventurous spirit, the passion to perform, traveling together as a family, to spending time volunteering, it's quite visible. Nothing could ever take the place of Roxie or fill the hole in her mother's heart.
CARRYING ON ROXIE'S LEGACY
One of the last conversations that Cathy had with her daughter was about what she wanted her legacy to be. You see, Roxie was a kind and considerate person. She would go out of her way to help anyone. Her teachers and classmates all adored her. There was just something special about her vibrant spirit. She was loved by many and will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle nature, and sweet smile.
FAMILY HOLDS FUNDRAISERS TO HONOR ROXIE
I don't know how Cathy does it. I can't begin to imagine the pain or how hard it would be just to get out of bed in the morning. I've known Cathy for years and she's such a positive person, but this is just unimaginable. I'm sure she has many good, and just as many bad days. No matter what each new day brings she has an important goal to accomplish. Doing what she promised Roxie a little over three years ago. Give back, do good, and honor her legacy. Whether it's having a meat sale, putting together a marathon, or volunteering, Cathy finds a way to make it happen. She's a very brave, and inspirational person.
Wonder Boy Media recently captured Cathy and The Hose Handlers raising money for Puzzle Pieces. They nailed their performance!
Roxie would be so proud of her Mom and all she does to not only keep her memory alive but what she's doing in the community. Roxie is dearly missed, but her spirit lives on.
Life is fragile so hold your loved ones tight. This video was recorded just a week before her devastating diagnosis. I just love her joyful spirit! We should all be more like Roxie.
