How to Register for the Run for Foxy Roxie 5K in Owensboro
It's time to get on your mark. Get set. And go! Registrations are now underway for the 3rd Annual Run for Foxy Roxie 5K here in Owensboro. Cathy Pickrell, Roxie's mom, created the chip-timed event to honor Roxie's memory and various walkers and runners from the area have jumped on board to participate.
Roxie was just 13-years-old when she was diagnosed with brain cancer and had to have surgery.
She actually died from complications related to that surgery. Roxie's story hit home with so many people in our community and her family has stayed committed to keeping her memory alive.
In addition to sharing Roxie's story in fundraising events like the Puzzle Pieces' Lip Sync Battle and WBKR's annual St. Jude Radiothon, her mom Cathy has created a non-profit in her name. It's the Roxanne Pickrell Memorial Foundation. Money raised by the foundation will be allocated to other non-profits in our community. For example, the proceeds from this year's run will go to My Sister's Keeper, a brand new emergency shelter for women and children that's set to open early this summer.
If you're interested in taking part in the 3rd Annual Run for Fox Roxie, here's what you need to know.
The event will start and end at Moreland Park by the Owensboro Sportscenter.
And, participants will receive the official t-shirt for this year's race. But, if you want to secure your shirt, you should register ASAP.
