The college football season is finally over, which means the final AP poll has come out and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers finish the season at number 24.

It's the second time in the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) era the Tops have appeared in the top 25, both times this season. They appeared at number 25 after their Conference USA championship win over Southern Missouri and then rode that momentum to a victory over South Florida in the Miami Beach Bowl, a game ranked no. 4 of the bowl season by CBS Sports. The Tops finished ahead of Florida, who came in at number 25 in the final poll.

Led by head coach Jeff Brohm, they won 12 games for the first time since their 2002 Division-1A National Championship season. They were also the first team in C-USA's 20-year history to go undefeated in conference play and win the conference championship game. Quaterback Brandon Doughty finished the year as the nation's leading passer in FBS with top stats in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and completion percentage.

The last time WKU finished the season ranked in the AP poll was 1975 when then head coach Jimmy Feix led the team to an 11-2 record and the team finished the season as the NCAA Division II runner-up.
