Breaking news this morning.  The Daviess County Sheriff's Department is on the scene investigating an overnight shooting.

While the investigation is currently underway, here's what we know.  Officials say an 18-year-old female victim was shot overnight and deputies are still on the hunt for the alleged shooter.  In fact, Owensboro Police Department K9 units are on hand to track the scent of that suspect.

Detectives say the female victim was on her way to work when someone allegedly opened the back door of her vehicle and shot her in the hip.  Her boyfriend was in the passenger seat of the car at the time, but was apparently uninjured.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

UPDATE @ 8 AM: There are suspects in custody at this time and a backpack along with a rifle was retrieved about two miles from the scene. The police believe the shooting may have been accidental.

The incident occurred near the intersection of U.S. 60 and Hwy 279.  We'll share more details as they're made available to us.
