I am not ashamed to admit that I love reality TV. From Jersey Shore, to Real Housewives of every state, My Strange Addiction, Below Deck, etc. If it is a show that offers up the good, bad, and the ugly, I am all in.

I love a genuine character. I think it's brave (and a little crazy, NGL) of people in those shows to share their entire lives with the world. I commend anyone showing that level of vulnerability. I think that's part of how the stars become just as famous as Hollywood actors. Around here, a run-in with one of the Slaton sisters from TLC's 1000-lb Sisters is a total celebrity sighting.

Amy Slaton-Halterman, Tammy Slaton, and their friends & family live around these parts. These days, most of the show is filmed across the tri-state area in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. They've come to Owensboro multiple times to film at The Miller House restaurant, Reid's Orchard, and the Joys of Cooking Class.

Episode 4 from the most recent 8th season of the show is out today, and you may see some other familiar faces as Amy and her fiancé Brian go about their wedding planning. We get to follow along for a taste test to choose who will bake their cake for the big day.

Who is the lucky baker? None other than Maggie Mills of Maggie's Cakes & More in Madisonville, KY. She does beautiful work, and her treats taste even better than they look. IYKYK! She made my son's first birthday cake and cupcakes because I wanted them to be super special, and Maggie did not disappoint.

When you watch the episode (I found it on HBO Max), you'll learn why it's hard to taste test wedding cake after bariatric surgery and why the sisters are unfortunately not on the best of terms right now. Amy also goes wedding dress shopping at Hattie James Bridal in Henderson.

Great choices, Amy! You'll also see, when you watch the episode, why this wedding planning process is so special to her. After everything she has been through, she is shooting for the moon, and I love that she is featuring local businesses while doing it.  Congratulations on your big day, Amy! If you need an emcee for your reception, holler at me! We'll whoop it up realllllll good, girlfriend!
