Author Scott Longert to Speak at Daviess County Public Library

My dad was the biggest baseball fan I ever knew, but I've never met Scott H. Longert. And Longert would have a big hill to climb to surpass a man who would watch any baseball game at any time, regardless of who was playing. Still, he's an author who writes about baseball, and even Dad would yield to his knowledge and be fascinated by tales of his experiences.

A western Kentucky native, Longert has spent most of his professional life in Ohio, securing his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and his Masters from Cleveland State University. A Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) historian, Longert is seen here discussing his 2019 release Bad Boys, Bad Times: The Cleveland Indians and Baseball in the Prewar Years, 1937–1941 with the BCSN podcast:

Longert's Latest Is About Beaver Dam KY Native Ray Chapman

On January 11th, you'll get to see and hear him in person via an appearance at the Daviess County Public Library where he will discuss his latest book Love and Loss: The Short Life of Ray Chapman, about the early 20th century Cleveland Indians shortstop who remains the only player in Major League Baseball history to die from an injury sustained during a game. Chapman, a Beaver Dam KY native, was only 29 when when passed away in 1920.
