The last thing anyone wants before a big game like Kentucky/Indiana is a distraction. But, I'm hoping the recent news that John Calipari doesn't plan to stay at UK longer than 10 years won't be very distracting, if at all, since that decision has no effect whatsover on his current players or any potential Wildcat 12 years old or older.

THE 10-YEAR PLAN

Yep, Coach Cal has gone on record as saying that, while he is in no hurry to leave, he doesn't want to become a "bitter old coach" and that he'll know when it's time to go. While the headline of any one of the stories fans might read about this decision might strike fear into their hearts, it isn't a decision that surprises me. Outside of Adolph Rupp, no UK coach has had a longer tenure than 13 years--that was Joe B. Hall. And if Cal were to go the full 10 years, as he has said, his would be the third-longest tenure (tied with Tubby Smith) of any of UK's basketball coaches. After the initial shock, Big Blue Nation should understand that this just makes sense. While there are universities--like Duke, Connecticut, and Syracuse--that can owe their current tradition of success to one coach, there are others--like Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, and maybe Indiana--that are bigger than any one coach. And these coaches know that. These schools have enjoyed great success through multiple head coaches. Kentucky will continue to do that. And that will actually be John Calipari's legacy. He has re-energized the fan base and put the 'Cats back on top. And now, that's where we'd like them to stay...

CATS VS. HOOSIERS

Well, not all of us, based on a WBKR Waking Crew TAD POLL question this morning. Hey, I get it. WBKR is right on the Ohio River, right across from Indiana. I've long understood that, when it comes to basketball, the WBKR audience is a house divided, as Chad said this morning. Hey, the Hoosiers are off to a terrific 8-0 start. Coincidentally, the Wildcats are also off to a terrific 8-0. That means that late tomorrow afternoon, someone will be removed from the list of the undefeated. Will it be UK? Will it be IU? Tune in tomorrow...
