In nine seasons, Tom Crean took the Indiana Hoosiers to the Sweet Sixteen three times. Speaking as someone who ALSO lives in a state that BLEEDS basketball, I know that that just isn't good enough.
We're going on five years since the end of the Kentucky/Indiana basketball rivalry. Well, I guess the rivalry is still there. It's just that GAME isn't.
After watching Louisville confuse and then throttle Connecticut on the road Monday night, I became even more impressed with Kentucky's 3-point loss at the Yum! Center a couple of weeks ago.
WBKR's #1 college basketball fan here still celebrating the official start of the 2012-2013 season. Yesterday was Opening Day and featured 222 out of 338 Division I teams in action. Two of those teams--the Kentucky Wildcats and the Indiana Hoosiers--opened their campaigns with victories. Both fan bases have reason to be very pleased.
It was the shot heard round the world. No, not THAT shot. The one where the basketball programs of Kentucky and Indiana agreed to never again darken each others doors. Although, that decision HAS created something of a verbal revolutionary war.
Wildcats vs. Hoosiers. Wildcats vs. Tar Heels. Wildcats vs. Cardinals. Last fall, UK coach John Calipari called upon Big Blue Nation to help him determine which, if any, of these three annual rivalry games should be dropped if it was necessary--the thought being that the SEC would be going to an 18-game schedule with two new schools in the conference (and it will).
Breathtaking. It's corny, but I couldn't think of anything else to say. Kentucky's 102-90 win over Indiana last night, at times, simply took my breath away. 192 points were scored in a game that only featured 14 turnovers. That is flat-out unbelievable! Seriously, it's a shame that someone had to lose.
In a basketball-lovin' world, we are all deeply entrenched in March Madness mania--so much so, that I immediately knew what was about to happen the minute I walked up the sidewalk this morning.
