Future Pilots Can Take Flight at Owensboro Aviation Camp
I guess this happens with the aging of every generation, but when I hear about classes or events that are offered to today's youth, one question always jumps into my mind...where was all this when I was a kid?
Whenever I get a chance to chat with high-school-age kids, I pick their brains about what they're studying because I'm always impressed at the variety. But it's not just what's happening in school; it's also the kinds of cool programs in which kids can involve themselves that are also impressive.
Aviation Camp
Case in point...the Aviation Museum of Kentucky is hosting Aviation Camp this summer at Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport, and the hands-on experience kids will gain will be something they'll never forget.
The camp for kids from 10 to 17 years of age is scheduled for July 13th and 14th and will allow participants to try out flight simulators, learn the basics of flying, go behind the scenes and see the inner workings of an airport, and take part in an actual flight. How exciting. I repeat..."Where was all this when I was a kid?"
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky hosted this camp in Louisville seven summers ago.
There are still open spots, and there is also scholarship assistance available, but it's limited. Call (270) 685-4179 or email info@owb.net for more information.
If your kids want to be a part of this exciting experience, you can register them here or scan the QR code on the airport's Facebook page. The classes will be of the same length as a typical school day, 8 AM to 3 PM.
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky will host other Aviation Camps in Kentucky this summer in Bowling Green, July 6th-9th; Pikeville, June 29th-30th; and in Hazard on July 30th and 31st.
If you can't get scheduled for the Owensboro camp, maybe you can for another. Good luck. It sounds like a lot of fun.
