Become a Fairy Godmother: Help Make Prom Dreams Come True for Western Kentucky Teens!
Cinderella's Closet is a non-profit that helps make prom dreams come true for high school girls in Western Kentucky who can't afford a dress. Each year, they provide hundreds of prom gowns and accessories to ensure every teen can feel like a princess on their special night. By donating gently used dresses, shoes, jewelry, or even offering your time to volunteer, you can play a crucial role in making this possible. I just signed up to volunteer! Here's how you can help make those dreams a reality.
Prom is a major milestone, especially for high school seniors. It’s often one of the last big celebrations before graduation, a night many dream about. However, many families, spending hundreds of dollars on a dress that will only be worn once, isn't financially feasible. Growing up, I didn’t have much money either, so when it came time to buy my prom dress, I had to work hard to cover half the cost. I was fortunate enough to get the dress of my dreams, but so many others aren’t as lucky. That’s where Cinderella's Closet steps in, offering a helping hand to those who need it most, ensuring that every girl can have her moment to shine, no matter her financial situation.
WHAT IS CINDERELLA'S CLOSET?
Cinderella’s Closet began as a ministry of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park, KY in 2006. It’s an effort inspired by a teenager, our founder, Erin Peterson, met while shopping at a consignment store. Erin overheard the teenager ask a clerk if the beautiful, gently-used gown on display could be put on hold while she figured out how to pay for it.
She asked her foster mother for the money, but a prom dress is an extra in life, and its price was out of their reach. Seeing her disappointment, Erin bought the dress for her. As tears flooded her eyes, she said she would look “just like Cinderella.” One day, a little girl was transformed into a princess.
Erin was transformed as well. Shortly thereafter, Cinderella’s Closet became a ministry of Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Since that day, Cinderella's Closet has been turning dresses into dreams. Through generous donations, they provide beautiful prom dresses to girls in need, ensuring every teen feels special on one of the most memorable nights of their high school journey. The organization’s reach has grown over the years, and today, Cinderella's Closet locations can be found in Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas, California, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Offering free dresses, shoes, and accessories, Cinderella's Closet helps create magical moments for those who might otherwise miss out. It's a beautiful thing!
HOW TO DONATE PROM DRESSES & ACCESSORIES IN WESTERN KENTUCKY
If you're interested in donating a new or gently used prom dress (less than 3 years old and in excellent condition) to Cinderella's Closet, it's easy to help! Donations can be dropped off at various locations listed below. And don't forget the accessories! Sparkly jewelry, purses, and shoes are always welcome to complete the look. Your donation can make a real difference in a young girl's life.
As I clean out my closet, I’m excited to donate many of my formal gowns that I’ve only worn once, with some still with the tags on them. These dresses make a high school girl feel like a princess on her prom night. Prom can be expensive and I truly believe no one should miss out because they can’t afford a dress. By donating these gowns, I hope to help a teen create beautiful memories and experience the magic of prom without the financial burden. It feels great to know that something I no longer need can make a difference in someone else's life. You can do it too!
