With technology come new threats of all intensity levels. Whether it be identity theft or phone scams, we're dealing with a new normal we have to face.

Social media has also become an avenue of choice for some of the worst types of people who want to mess with your life.

A friend of mine sent me the following message on Facebook:

"Please tell all the contacts in your messenger list not to accept anything from Fabrizio Brambilla. He has a photo with a dog. He is a hacker and has the system connected to your messenger account. If one of your contacts accepts it, you will also be hacked, so make sure that all your friends know it. Thanks. Forwarded as received."

Please be careful.

And, here's the thing. I never know anymore if I'm getting sincere friend requests or even if the messages in my Messenger are real.

I'm taking this one at face value.

And, besides, if I get a friend request from someone with whom I have no mutual friends, that's a red flag and I ignore it.
