These Counties Have Reported the Most Kentucky Bigfoot Sightings
I was 12 years old when word spread around town that Bigfoot had been spotted on someone's property out on Fairview Drive. Mind you, this was the late 1970s, but it was like we had social media. All tongues were wagging.
Bigfoot Sightings
Was it Bigfoot? We will never know. Then again, NOBODY will ever know for sure that Sasquatch came a' callin'. At least, that's what I've concluded after decades of supposition. Well, before I get frustrated and before we go any further, we need to cue the Paterson-Gimlin video, the Bigfoot version of the Zapruder film.
Isn't that always the way? You would think that after as many sightings as have been reported over the last 55 years, give or take, there would be SOMETHING that officially prove or disprove the Big Fella's existence. Then again, where would the fun be in that?
Bigfoot Sightings in Kentucky
Bigfoot IS fun, so much so that there's a website devoted to reports of sightings in Kentucky. It's a fairly comprehensive website featuring every Kentucky county and the number of Bigfoot sightings from each one out to the side.
Kentucky Counties With the Most Bigfoot Sightings
Anderson County tops the list with 27, followed by Bullitt (26), Ohio (16), Carter (15), Adair (14), Henderson (13), and Casey (11). Rounding out the top 10 are Daviess, Hopkins, Lawrence, and Trigg Counties, all with 10. Here's an account from a 1983 reported sighting.

You can click on any county and read each of those reports. I had to go all the way to the bottom of the Daviess County list to find the 1978 encounter I mentioned earlier. Witnesses described a creature anywhere from 8 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. It left footprints that were between 14 and 16 inches long. (Uh, I wear a size 15 shoe, so that might not be a salient point.) The "creature" was shot at but left no blood trail, only a wet spot where it was said to have stood.
It's a great story, but, again, no clear look, and it ran off before anyone could anything resembling evidence.
To me, Bigfoot is iconic American folklore, like John Bunyan or John Henry. I am of the opinion that he will never be "caught."
