Fred and Rose West’s Crimes Retold on Netflix | Official Trailer
As a true crime fan, I was shocked that I had never heard of the infamous "House of Horrors" at 25 Cromwell Street, which was home to one of the most disturbing serial killer cases in British history. Reading the memoir over the weekend, written by their daughter, I read the firsthand account of the abuse and manipulation that occurred behind closed doors. I couldn't put the book down. Now, Netflix is set to release a new three-part documentary titled Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story with never-before-seen footage and interviews with victims' families.
Who are Fred and Rose West?
Fred and Rose West were one of the most notorious serial killer couples in British history. Their crimes, spanning over two decades, involved the abduction, torture, and murder of at least 12 young women and girls, including their daughter, Heather.
Surviving a Childhood with Fred and Rose West
When I added Love as Always, Mum xxx: The True and Terrible Story of Surviving a Childhood with Fred and Rose West to my Kindle, I had no idea what I was about to learn after it appeared in my recommendations list as just another true crime read. But over the weekend, I found myself completely engrossed in the disturbing memoir by Mae West, the daughter of Britain's most infamous sadistic killers. Her story is impossible to comprehend, and I don't want to share too many details in case you don't know the story.
Horrors at the House on Cromwell Street
Through childhood memories, research, and letters from her mother in prison, Mae shares the horrors she endured growing up at 25 Cromwell Street. From being locked in the family's basement as a toddler to fending off her father's repeated sexual abuse as a teen, Mae’s memoir is not just a record of trauma, lies, and deceit, but a story of survival. I highly recommend this book if you're a true crime fan like me. It's one of the rawest survivor accounts I've ever read.

It's hard to wrap your head around what Mae and her siblings experienced growing up in such unimaginable circumstances. The horror, abuse, and struggle for survival at the hands of their parents. From suicide, incarceration, to ongoing trauma, not all siblings came out unscathed.
From Memoir to Documentary: The Fred & Rose West Story Continues
After finishing the book, I wanted to learn more about the case. I wanted to see if any documentaries were produced about the horrific crimes. While I found a handful of older documentaries released over the years, I was excited to find out Netflix is releasing a brand-new documentary, Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story, on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. It's a must-watch for fans of true crime like me! I can’t wait to see how much more insight it brings to this chilling case.
