Thirty years ago, some friends of mine and I visited a mutual friend in Phoenix, Arizona, in July. Nobody I talked to could believe we chose the middle of summer to see one of the hottest cities in the country.

Western Dry Heat vs. Kentucky Humidity

Well, here's the thing with southwestern weather and my tolerance levels. I am a hot-natured guy, but my arch-enemy is humidity, not heat. In Phoenix, you won't find much of the former. No, it isn't safe to stay in the southern Arizona sun for too long a time, with or without sunscreen. Long story short...I didn't mind it.

But the opposite is seldom true when natives of the American Southwest head east into much higher humidity. I have tons of family in New Mexico, and every time they got off the plane in Nashville, and then when they'd hop out of their rental vehicle in Owensboro, they were overwhelmed by our trademark humidity. I get it. It's a much bigger shock to the system greeting this heavy air than the other way around.

California Artist's Funny Commentary About Kentucky Weather

Voice-over artist and content creator Tawny Platis knows all too well what I'm talking about. Or at least she did once she got to Owensboro.

Last month, she posted a video saying she was coming to OMG!Con at the Owensboro Convention Center. Before she left her native San Diego, however, she checked our forecast and was not pleased, to say the least.

I've watched this multiple times and have cracked up every single time. The shocked tone in her voice and the distressed look in her eyes are priceless. I've been to San Diego, and I can tell you it is the best weather I have ever experienced in my lifetime. The average summertime highs are in the upper 70s, and they rarely eclipse 83 degrees. It is heaven on Earth in extreme Southern California.

I'm sure Tawny had a great time at OMG!Con then breathed a large sigh of relief when she hopped off the plane back home.
