Celebrate a Vintage Christmas With the 2024 Owensboro-Daviess Co. Christmas Parade
Planning for the 86th Annual Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade is in full swing! Tradition has always been that the date for the festivities is the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This means that the beautiful floats, sparkling garbage trucks, and marching bands will be lined up and ready to go at 4:30PM November 23rd.
I have such wonderful memories of attending the parade as a child. We would bundle up and meet friends to drink hot chocolate from our thermoses and hopefully rack up on candy canes and see the big man himself to kick off the Holiday season. Christmas as a kid in general was a different level of magical.
It's that nostalgia and warm fuzzies that the Christmas parade board is hoping to inspire in participants and attendees alike with the theme for 2024. The theme helps those who are putting together entries in the parade decide how to decorate their floats. As everyone sits and watches, its fun to observe the different interpretations and creativity.
Applications for "A Vintage Christmas" will be open very soon, so get your aluminum trees, kitschy decor, blow molds, and tinsel ready! Whatever is nostalgic and festive for you and your crew goes as far as decorating goes. Maybe a classic movie you watched as a youngster, big colorful light bulbs, or those coveted trendy toys from your Christmas list. There are so many fun ways to celebrate.
Be sure to follow the Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade on Facebook for updates and information including float sign-ups. Announcements will also be made regarding who the Grand Marshal and special guests will be as well as some other fun surprises organizers have up their elf sleeves!
