Let's talk about Firehouse Subs, shall we? The discussion won't be centered on their delicious sandwiches, although a separate story could go to town on the subject. No, we're here for the amazing work the company does through its longtime charitable arm, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

In 2005, in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, the founders of Firehouse Subs, traveled to Mississippi, where they fed first responders and survivors. It was that mission that led to the creation of this non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has greatly benefited our first responders for the last 20 years.

Grants awarded by the Foundation have been a boon to over 7,000 organizations, with more than $102 million distributed across all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Central City Volunteer Fire Department Wins Firehouse Subs Grant

In most cases, the grants are in the form of necessary items, and in this case, the Central City Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded six sets of bunker gear valued at up to $24,972. The gear includes Viking coats and hats along with boots and helmets.

What an extraordinary platform this is. Volunteer fire departments rely on the kindness of others to fill needs, and Firehouse Subs always comes charging to the rescue. Congratulations to the Central VFD and all the other organizations that have been recognized and rewarded.

In 2024, there were 393 sets of bunker gear distributed via the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Grants in the form of scholarships, all-terrain vehicles, thermal imaging cameras, extrication tools, and automated external defibrillators.

More than 70% of the Foundation funds that are utilized for grants come from guest donations and the company itself.
