Check Out the Creative Vegetable Critters at the 2024 Kentucky State Fair
Our visit to the Kentucky State Fair is something I look forward to every year. A whole day of free entertainment, petting animals, eating delicious food, and making friends with folks from all over the bluegrass.
One of the first things on my to-do list is to go to the West Hall and check out the agriculture exhibits. The honey, the pecan pies, the sunflowers, the tobacco room, the fruits and veggies. Look how tiny these okra are!
It's cool to check out the winners of the largest and smallest entries, but my favorites are the critters. Usually they have punny names or reference celebrities (keep scrolling for Kale-r Swift and Travis Kale-ce.) Sometimes they are adorable scenes. Think Veggie Tales come to life.
Here are some of the creative nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetable creations. First up, commemorating the 120th year and 120 Kentucky counties this seed and corn mosaic.
This eagle won the blue ribbon!
How adorable is this bat made from sunflower seeds?

She's a WITCH! The good thing about this one is that the more shriveled the squash gets, the spookier she looks.
Adorable "Happy Campers" tomatoes roasting s'mores.
Carmen Miranda tomato. Way to embrace the "beauty mark."
Tony Hawk's long lost brother won the blue ribbon for vegetable critters, but he's not long for this world. It kinda looks like he's lost his lunch from doing all of the flips and tricks. How creative though!
I love that this is fun way for the kiddos to get involved in agriculture. This bunny rabbit was made by little Parker only 4 years old.
Tommy Tomato and his pet hedgehog.
This one was one of my favorites. An eggplant ballerina. The tutu, the hair, the lips, the mirror and barre! Elegant Eggplant Dance Studio primadonna!
Pinky the pig wallerin' in the mud.
And the Kale-everest one of the year is the "it" couple of 2024, Kale-or Swift and Travis Kale-se. Barbie dolls that got a critter makeover.
That hair!! We were hollering!
What a fabulous skirt!
Be sure you stop on by to the West Hall when you visit the Kentucky State Fair. See these critters for yourself. \
