Almost all children must have at least one birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese - it's a right of passage. Here in Owensboro at the age of six, I held my coming-of-age pizza party at Showbiz Pizza - complete with Billy Bob the bear, a scary gorilla and the rest of the Showbiz Band. I have pictures somewhere commemorating the event.

While researching the history of Chuck E. Cheese, I learned that at one time Showbiz Pizza and Chuck E. Cheese were rivals, and then Showbiz Pizza bought out a struggling Chuck E. The two then operated as separate businesses but were owned by the same company. The owners did a consumer survey and found out that kids liked the singing mouse more than the hillbilly bear.

Anyway, I was devastated to find out my childhood birthday palace was turning into a rat cage but life goes on. Chuck is going through a new transition - he's slimmer, sports a guitar and has a new voice - Jaret Reddick, the lead singer of pop-punk band Bowling for Soup. CEC Entertainment, that owns the Chuck E. Cheese franchise, hopes the update will revive sales.

Take a look at Chuck and see if you think his makeover will bring in the kids and families...
