Movie Filmed at Churchill Downs Set to Premiere on Hallmark
Stop me if you've heard this one...another movie filmed in Kentucky will soon make its debut. More and more over the last four years, Hollywood filmmakers have seemingly fallen in love with the Commonwealth. I've been saying for several years that my home state has rich cinematic value. From small towns to the Appalachians to the lake area. And, of course, there's Louisville, which can represent several decades; its maintenance of old neighborhoods makes it an attractive destination.
Churchill Downs Hallmark Movie
But there is, perhaps, no more cinematic a Louisville location than Churchill Downs. The iconic venue has served as a backdrop for solid efforts like 2003's Seabiscuit and 2010's Secretariat.
Now, the Hallmark Channel is jumping into the fray with the romantic dramedy Kentucky Roses.
Kentucky Roses
Set during a pair of time frames--1932 and 2026--Kentucky Roses tells the story of a Churchill Downs greenhouse worker, Sadie, who dreams of becoming a florist who contributes to the iconic rose garland given to the Kentucky Derby winner. The movie flashes back to when her great-grandmother was bestowed that honor.
Back in present-day Louisville, Sadie begins a romance with the son of the Churchill Downs CEO. As the story progresses, an old connection between the two families is discovered.
Where You've Seen the Kentucky Roses Stars
Andrew Walker plays Ash, the CEO's son, and he actually has a list of credits that include some really big TV hits like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Reba, The Big Bang Theory, ER, and CSI: Miami. Meanwhile, Odette Annable (Sadie) has made appearances on Two and a Half Men, House, Monk, Supergirl, and Walker, among others.
Kentucky Roses will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Derby Day, May 2nd. It will be available to stream the following day on Hallmark+.
